Bristol Community Energy Limited - Bond Offer 4
This three-year bond will enable us to repay loans to Bristol City Council and Close Brothers as well as investing in a selection of micro-renewable projects in the Bristol region.
BCE has an excellent track record. We have been developing community-owned energy since 2011, and held community solar share offers in 2012 and 2014. Last year was an exciting one for us as we raised over £10 million for new projects in our third fund-raise. We were delighted that the public contributed £3.5 million of this, through share and bond offers. We have since used all these funds on new solar projects, taking our total portfolio to 2 solar farms and rooftop solar installations on 11 community buildings. BCE now has 9 MW of solar PV projects under ownership.
Our vision is for our projects to provide significant long-term benefits to the local community.
BCE has paid its investor members the target interest rate on their investment for the four years that our schemes have been operating.
We are also committed to utilizing surplus profits from our schemes to provide community benefit. We are just putting the finishing touches to our regional community fund, and have allocated an initial sum of £50,000 to it. The fund will open for applications in the autumn.
In addition, we have been able to facilitate an up-front payment of £155,000 to Ambition Lawrence Weston (ALW), our partner in our Lawrence Weston solar farm. ALW have described this funding as transformational. It has helped it make significant progress in its 10 Year Plan that targets improvements in housing, employment opportunities, crime, transport, health & social care, the local environment, education and leisure activities.
We are now ready to continue our journey to becoming a major generator of clean, community-owned energy in the Bristol area, and are seeking additional funds in this latest bond offer to work on and develop a number of innovative energy schemes. One of these projects is to work closely with a BCE partner to purchase and operate a 100kW TESLA battery at a new housing site.
This offer is designed to encourage local community investment as well as giving people from anywhere in the UK the opportunity to:
• participate in the development of renewable energy resources;
• support the re-investment of surplus profits back into local communities;
• help reduce the impact of climate change, strengthen local energy supplies and improve energy security;
• earn interest on the bond at a rate of 4.5% interest per year, for 3 years; and
• remain invested in the bond after year 3 if desired, with the same annual interest rate
I sincerely hope you will give this bond offer serious consideration and join us in our journey to a carbon-free future.
